Although Lionel had released quite a few "fantasy" Norfolk Southern heritage paint schemes over the years, when Norfolk Southern unveiled the official heritage fleet in 2012, Lionel followed suit and released O scale versions of the real heritage fleet (along with fantasy matching cabooses, hoppers and other cars) starting in their 2012 Volume 2 catalog where they released 10 gorgeous ES44's: Norfolk Southern NKP Southern Monongahela Pennsylvania N&W Interstate Central of Georgia Conrail Lehigh Valley The very next catalog, 2013 Volume 1, featured 10 stunning SD70ACe's: Savannah & Atlanta Virginian Lackawanna Jersey Central Erie Reading Wabash Illinois Terminal Penn Central New York Central The Norfolk Southern heritage diesels would be absent from Lionel's catalogs until they brought them back starting in their 2023 Volume 2 catalog and concluding in their 2025 Volume 1 catalog. Norfolk Southern has since unveiled new heritage paint schemes, which I'm sure Lionel will produce at some point. My heritage collection is a combination of the original 2012-2013 release and newest 2023-2025 release. The main difference between the original release and the later release, other than the technology inside, is that the newer versions have a flat paint job as opposed to the glossy paint job of the originals.
