MTH 20-20001-2 BNSF 3GS21B Genset Switcher #1228 w/Proto-Sound 2.0
From my 2009 vol. 2 catalog order, this is MTH's take on the new genset switchers. While it's not nearly as cool as Lionel's genset, it's still a very nice engine. I ordered a few of these in the 2-rail configuration, which comes with fixed pilots, and then I converted them for 3-rail operation. Note the scale couplers! Released in 2011, added to my set in July of 2011. |
|
MTH 20-2620-1 BNSF SD70ACe Diesel Engine w/Proto-Sound 2.0
The first engine to come in from my 2006 catalog order. These new SD70ACe's are amazing looking. This engine gave me my first look at the new brake cylinder detailing they've added to the trucks of their new diesels. The paint scheme is perfect! It was worth the wait. You can check out a video of this engine in action right here. This is a 2006 model, added to my set in December of the same year. |
|
MTH 20-2620-3 BNSF SD70ACe Diesel Engine (Non-Powered)
Just like the one above, but non-powered. This is a 2006 model, added to my set in December of the same year. |
|
MTH 20-2822-1 BNSF ES44AC #7785 Diesel Engine w/Proto-Sound 2.0
Part of my 2008 Vol. 1 order. I was pleased to discover that this ES44 has subtle differences, both in the body and the sound set, from the Canadian National ES44 above. It's always nice when train makers take the extra step to make slight modifications for each road name. Made in 2008, added to my collection in June of 2009 |
|
MTH 20-2822-1 BNSF ES44AC #7780 Diesel Engine w/Proto-Sound 2.0
Just like the engine above, but with a different road number. Made in 2008, added to my collection in August of 2009. |
|
Lionel 6-28350 BNSF ES44AC Diesel Engine
I can't get enough of these die-cast ES44's. They are the best O-Scale diesel engines ever made, period. Made in 2010, added to my collection in Mary of 2011. |
|
Lionel 6-28355 BNSF 3GS21B Genset Switcher #1249 w/Legacy
Nice look engine that looks great and sounds even better. Made in 2011, added to my set in October of 2011. |
|
Lionel 6-31783 BNSF Ice Cold Express AC6000 #32 Diesel Engine w/Legacy
This AC6000 leads the Ice Cold Express train set that I ordered from Lionel's 2010 Volume 1 catalog. It's not based on anything real, but it's still neat looking. The set consisted of this engine, 3 57' mechanical refrigeration cars (1 with sound and 1 with smoke) and an extended vision caboose. Not a bad deal for $800. Made in 2011, added to my collection in January of 2012 |
|
Lionel 6-37065 BNSF TMCC Speeder
Lionel's classic speeder is finally equipped with TMCC! I've been waiting for this for years. Made in 2012, added to my collection in January 2013. |

A nicely done boxcar. My favorite part is the well done roof, which isn't visible in the photo. Made in 1999 and added to my set in March 2007. |
|
Lionel 6-21853 BNSF PS-2 4427 Hopper 3-Pack
These are out of Lionel's 2006 catalog. I like that Lionel has started using the trucks with the rotating bearing caps like Atlas does. It adds another level of realism. These hoppers are very nicely done. Made in 2006 and added to my set in June 2007. |
|
Lionel 6-21895 Burlington Northern Husky Stack 2-Pack
Added to my collection sometime in 2008. |

|
Atlas 8910-2 BNSF #236074 Gunderson Stack Car A-B Set
I first picked up the CSX Sealand rendition of this set (below) and was so impressed with it that I ran out and grabbed the BNSF version as well. I'd also like to pick up the middle C-D-E sets that attach to these units and makes them even longer. Hats off to Atlas for going all out on these sweet sets. This is a 2007 release, added to my set in April of the same year. |

Weaver Weaver Ultra Line BNSF #2003 PS-1 40' Boxcar
This being one of the first Weaver car I ever had, I was a little disappointed at first. The body seemed to be made of flimsy plastic and the trucks seemed to be cheaply made. I didn't want to pass judgment to quickly, so I asked someone to explain Weaver cars to me on the O-gauge magazine forum. Apparently, Weaver cars are geared for kit hobbyists. They claim that the styrene plastic takes paint better than the ABS plastic used by Lionel and MTH. They also said that the trucks were available in sturdier die-cast models, but that the cheaper trucks were made for 2-rail layouts. The paint job on this car is pretty good and the detailing is done well. I especially like the detailing on the brake wheel. I have since replaced the plastic trucks on this car with die-cast Lionel metal sprung trucks. |
